Tolu Arokodare leaves Wolves as Ajax seal loan with option to buy | OneFootball

Tolu Arokodare has left Wolves for Ajax on a season-long loan that includes an option to buy next summer for around £17m. The striker expressed delight at the move and had been impatient to see it completed.

Ajax will cover his full wages for 2026/27 and pay Wolves a £1m loan fee, with further bonuses linked to European qualification.

Club and player had been working on an exit, with Arokodare initially omitted from Wolves’ pre-season camp in Portugal. He was later flown in for one session to cover Adam Armstrong’s calf injury, did not play the behind-closed-doors game against Estoril and watched from the stands.

After returning to Compton, he was involved in a training-ground incident that led to a session being cancelled when he refused to leave the first-team group. Extra security was brought in and he then missed friendlies against Maidenhead and Real Sociedad.

Interest arrived from Fiorentina and Trabzonspor, with bids rejected. Trabzonspor later had an offer accepted, but Arokodare turned it down as he preferred Italy, and he has now secured a switch to Ajax.

Wolves signed the Nigeria international from Genk for almost £24m last summer. He scored six goals in 38 appearances last season.
