Tom Burwell says Sunderland’s owners remain committed to a long-term plan, despite reports of a possible sale. The interim CEO added there is no sign of imminent change.

According to Footbiz, the ownership group retained US investment bank Moelis earlier this year and made potential investors aware the club could be available.

Burwell said the Premier League’s global pull, and the scarcity of 20 clubs, meant interest was inevitable. He stressed he is in constant dialogue with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and that daily actions show a push into the next phase of development.

He pointed to year two of a capital expenditure programme at the stadium and academy as evidence of long-term intent. He said there is strong alignment between the executive team and the ownership on the club’s direction.

After the initial report, the ownership reiterated its full commitment and its excitement over recent progress, and said the club is planning aggressively for a second Premier League campaign.
