Plymouth Argyle have appointed former Watford boss Tom Cleverley as their new manager.

Cleverley was dismissed by Watford after finishing 14th in the Championship last term but is set to enjoy a swift return to management with the Pilgrims.

Relegation naturally leads to a number of departures within the camp, and Plymouth are no different. With Mustafa Bundu and Ryan Hardie’s futures still up in the air, Cleverley must be prepared to bring in some new recruits.

Football League World’s Plymouth Argyle fan pundit, Luke Hodge, has outlined one player he believes the Pilgrims should have their eye on this summer.

Plymouth Argyle handed ideal transfer amid Tom Cleverley appointment

“It's imperative that we start trying to sign one or two strikers,” stated Luke. “Mustafa Bundu is looking likely that he's going to be leaving the club on the expiration of his contract.

“We've got Ryan Hardie there at the moment, but there are strong rumours that he may well be leaving the club in the summer.

“We've offered him a contract extension but that's yet to be signed and I'd imagine the club would want to get some money in for Ryan if he's not going to extend his contract.

“A name that has been floated around is Alassana Jatta from Notts County, and I like the look of him. He's Gambian, he's 26 years old, he's strong and scores goals. I think he'd be a great signing for Argyle.

“As I said, we've got a lack of strikers. We've signed Jamie Paterson. We've got young lads, Joe Hatch and Freddie Issaka.

“However, we really do need to strengthen our front line if we are going to be serious contenders for a promotion challenge next year.”

Alassana Jatta would be a fine addition for Argyle

If Plymouth do lose Bundu and Hardie, they would be hard-pressed to find a better replacement than Jatta.

22 goals and four assists in 43 appearances for Notts County last term are numbers that speak for themselves. If Argyle could acquire the forward and give him a strong platform to continue his talismanic form, they would boost their promotion chances tenfold.

However, the Pilgrims would have to fend off some of their fellow League One competitors.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Bolton Wanderers are eyeing a move for the Notts County star, as they look to bolster Steven Schumacher’s squad this summer.

Argyle will hope that Bolton’s capture of Sam Dalby may have quelled their determination to pursue a move for Jatta in the upcoming transfer window.
