The Blues host the Red Dragons in one of the most-anticipated League One clashes of the season, as two of the division’s promotion favourites go head to head in front of the TV cameras.

With both sides benefitting from heavy American investment, the pair have been tipped to be battling at the top of the division for much of the campaign, with the early signs proving that to be the case.

And with the two sides both wanting to put down a marker at such an early stage of the season, Wagner is hoping that home advantage can play into his side’s favour later today.

Tom Wagner’s message to Birmingham City fanbase ahead of Wrexham clash

The clash with Phil Parkinson’s side on Monday night will be City’s first competitive fixture in 13 days, having had the previous weekend off due to international call ups.

Before that, Chris Davies and his Blues outfit had been on a three-game winning run, with their only dropped points of the campaign coming on the opening day after a 1-1 draw with Reading.

Victories over Wycombe Wanderers, Leyton Orient and Wigan Athletic soon followed, with both sides yet to taste defeat in the third tier this season.

With everyone involved from both sides knowing how much the encounter could mean going forward, Wagner has urged the St Andrew’s faithful to make the difference this evening, as his side look to build on their opening start to the campaign.

The Blues chief said: “We are clearly moving in the right direction, and going from strength to strength.

“Enjoy tonight’s game, bring the noise and the passion. Thank you for all your support and enjoy what is coming.”

With plenty expected from the blockbuster battle in the Midlands, the expected 30,000 sellout crowd could make all the difference as the two sides go head to head, with no side willing to give an inch against a promotional rival.

Birmingham City, Wrexham clash could have huge League One consequences

After reports of over £30 million spent over the summer transfer window, few are expecting Birmingham City not to achieve an immediate return back to the Championship this season.

With the likes of Jay Stansfield, Alfie May, Chrostoph Klarer and Willum Thor Willumsson joining the squad since May, the Blues have not been shy in coming forward about their aspirations for the season ahead.

Despite having been two leagues apart in the previous campaign, there are similar expectations on Wrexham, with their Hollywood ownership bankrolling a momentous rise through the divisions of late.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have overseen a dramatic change in fortunes for the Welsh outfit, as they look to build on their back-to-back promotions over the past two years.

After both sides have started the campaign in such good form, that pre-season optimism is already looking well-placed, although this evening’s clash will give us a much better idea of who holds the upper hand in the battle for supremacy.
