Birmingham City have been told to give manager Chris Davies more time amid reported pressure on his job.

The Second City side arrived back in the second-tier this season with quite a reputation, having broken the League One points record en route to the third-tier title last term.

Eager to live up to that status, Blues recruited extensively in the summer transfer market, signing top-flight operators such as Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi. This business set expectations high heading into the campaign, with a potential play-off charge murmured.

Things haven't been quite so plain-sailing for Birmingham, as they lie 14th in the Championship after 22 games. Blues had fought their way back into the play-off hunt, but a recent run of poor form has majorly delayed that progress.

Just one point from their last four matches is a disappointing return, which has led to talk that manager Chris Davies could soon be under threat of being sacked.

Last time out, Blues were defeated 3-0 away at Sheffield United, another team that have struggled this season.

This result hasnt gone down well with the higher-ups at St.Andrew's according to Football Insider, as they report that the 40-year-old's position is no longer secure.

The report also states that Birmingham are drawing up a list of replacements, with Michael Carrick a name mentioned by plenty of supporters online.

When quizzed on whether Blues should swap Davies for Carrick, Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, believes that the club should give their current boss some more time to turn things around.

However, should Davies be relieved of his duties in the coming weeks, then Jason has identified Carrick as an ideal replacement due to the stylistic parallels.

"I'm not quite there with Davies out," stated Jason. "They've backed him. Everything the club has done has been around what he wants and what he wants to do on the pitch. So no, I'm not quite there.

"I've definitely been having that conversation with some Blues fans. I think Carrick is the safe option because I don't think you have to change too much. We're a possession-based team. Carrick will come in and you don't have to change too much. You've pretty much got a local flight replacement.

"Is that a good thing? I'm not sure, but Carrick would be one for me. The other obvious one is Gary O'Neill. He's out of work, massively over-performed with Bournemouth.

"I think he did a good job at Wolves, because they were absolutely honking. Carrick is the safe option.

"I'm not Davies out yet, but he's getting very close. I would take Carrick."

Birmingham City should bide their time with Chris Davies

Although recent results haven't been kind to Birmingham, there is still plenty of football left to play this season.

The 2025/26 Championship has been extremely tight, with not much separating the teams in the top six from those towards the bottom three.

Despite a recent drop-off in form, Blues are only six points shy of the play-offs. Successive victories over the festive period would soon have them back in that hunt, relieving pressure off Davies.
