Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore told FLW that the club must put a big price tag on Jay Stansfield after interest from Coventry City.

Birmingham City have been told to put a price tag of up to £30m on Jay Stansfield as Coventry City consider a move for the attacker.

The England youth international joined Blues on an initial loan in 2023, and, to the surprise of many, the club agreed a huge deal to sign the forward despite suffering relegation to League One.

That made Stansfield the face of the new-look Birmingham side under their US owners, and he starred as they won promotion back to the Championship.

Whilst there was disappointment that Blues failed to reach the play-offs last season, it was a decent campaign for Stansfield, who scored ten league goals.

Therefore, it’s perhaps no surprise that the 23-year-old is attracting interest, with reports stating Coventry are keen on the player.

The Sky Blues won promotion to the Premier League last season under Frank Lampard, and whilst they have spent money on their return to the top flight, they are still expected to be busy in the final weeks of the window.

And, bringing in attacking reinforcements is likely to be a priority for Coventry ahead of the deadline, although the report has stated that ‘several’ Premier League clubs could rival them for Stansfield’s signature if he is made available.

Obviously, losing Stansfield would be a big blow for Chris Davies, as he has regularly played the ex-Fulham man since his appointment at St. Andrew’s.

So, it’s perhaps no surprise that when asked by FLW about a potential sale, Birmingham fan pundit Jason Moore urged the club to hold out for a fee that could even surpass the club-record sale of Jude Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund.

“I think price wise, you’ve realistically got to be asking for £20m to £30m.

“I don’t think he probably warrants the top end of that value, but the market is the market, if you don’t ask you don’t get, and he’s got that English tax going on. To be fair, Stansfield’s numbers are actually quite good for Blues, they’re underrated, and even underrated by our fans.

“For me, I personally don’t want him to go, not yet, even if he’s not playing as much of a part this season, I still don’t want him to go. I think he’s very underrated by Blues fans.

“Do I think he’d be tempted by it? Yes and no. Yes, in the sense it’s Premier League football, he’d be silly not to be tempted by it. That’s the ultimate goal for any footballer.

“But, he’s not silly. He will know that he is the poster boy for Blues’ project. So, he will be aware he has got something really good here, and he’s loved by 90% of the fans. I think if an offer came in and we accepted, he would go, as you can’t say no to Premier League football, even if Blues are going to be there soon.

“I hope he doesn’t go, but if the money comes in then I think he will.”

It makes no sense to say a player is not for sale because we know that money talks, and ultimately every player has a price.

So, if Coventry, or any other club, do stump up serious cash, then a move could happen, and Blues could reinvest into other areas of the squad, which could work out.

But, you’d have to say that unless it did reach £30m, then Blues would be better off keeping Stansfield.

The main objective for Birmingham is to win promotion, so we shouldn’t lose sight of that, and Stansfield is obviously going to help the team on that front.

He is still a young player, he scores goals, and Stansfield does so much off the ball with his pressing, and the edge he has to his game is something that the fans love.

So, for a club with huge ambition, you do not want to lose someone like that unless a silly offer is tabled, and whilst that can’t be ruled out, Birmingham will surely be planning for Stansfield to play a big role in their promotion push this season.
