Toma Basic is to leave Lazio for good after agreeing a move to newly promoted Serie A side Venezia.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio and Alfredo Pedulla, Basic has a full agreement with Venezia, with Di Marzio reporting a three-year deal is already signed and includes a one-year extension if the club avoid relegation. Should the Venetians stay up at the end of 2026/27, the contract would run to 2030.

The Croatian joined Lazio from Bordeaux in 2021 but, short of minutes, spent the second half of 2023/24 on loan at Salernitana.

He returned for 2024/25 yet did not feature under Marco Baroni. This season he enjoyed a remarkable resurgence under Maurizio Sarri, initially left off the Serie A list, then capitalising on an injury crisis to earn a place and become a key figure.

That form was expected to lead to a new deal and an agreement in principle was reached with his entourage in January, but talks were then paused, prompting dialogue with Venezia.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito learned of the negotiations and, at Pedro’s post-match farewell at the Stadio Olimpico, told Basic he was acting hastily and said an official offer was coming. The midfielder shunned the Italian senator and walked away.
