Middlesbrough's Tommy Conway has discussed the impressive impact Kim Hellberg has had on the squad since his appointment.

Middlesbrough’s Tommy Conway has admitted the squad have been ‘blown away’ by the impact of Kim Hellberg, as the new continued his perfect start with a convincing 3-1 win over QPR on Saturday.

After Rob Edwards made the decision to leave Boro for Wolves, many thought it could derail the impressive start to the season that the Teesside outfit had enjoyed.

However, Hellberg has taken Boro to another level, winning his first four Championship games since his appointment, with the team playing some outstanding football in that period.

Of course, it’s still early days, but the Boro squad has quickly bought into Hellberg’s methods, and the fans love the style of play, which has already proved more popular among supporters than Edwards' more pragmatic, but undoubtedly effective, approach.

The players appear to be enjoying it as well, and Conway gave an insight into that when speaking to Teesside Live, as he talked up the work the ex-Hammarby chief has done in such a short space of time.

“I'm going to say his ideas and the things he wants to do, I think everyone's a bit blown away by it. And it's so clear when we go onto the pitch, everyone knows exactly what they need to do in and out of possession, and we're implementing that perfectly on the pitch.

“He just gives you confidence to go out and do what you want to do, and I think you can see by the goals we're scoring and what we're doing on the pitch. Working under Kim, him giving me the confidence to kick on, and in my all-round game, I think you can see I'm starting to get back to my best and starting to feel confident out there and sharper. It's really suiting me at the minute.”

Conway has started every game under the new boss, and he got his first goal since Hellberg’s arrival against the R’s last time out.

Again, it’s still very early days, but Boro will be delighted at just how quickly Hellberg has managed to get a tune out of the players considering he is adopting a different approach.

So, it’s no surprise to see what Conway thinks of the new boss, and, as an attacker, it’s easy to see why he is loving life at the minute, because Boro are always on the front foot and trying to score goals.

There will be bumps in the road, but Hellberg’s immediate impact has given Boro a seven-point lead over third-placed Preston, and whilst there’s so much football to be played, that’s a fantastic position to be in.

Ultimately, it’s an exciting time to be a Middlesbrough fan, and Conway’s comments show just how much the squad are enjoying playing for Hellberg - which they have demonstrated on the pitch.

Conway himself has struggled for goals this season following a fairly-prolific debut campaign after arriving from Bristol City in the summer of 2024, but you do get the feeling that the frontman could be unlocked by Hellberg's approach in due course.
