Sando Tonali traveled to Italy to answer the call-up and, on his way to Coverciano, he made a pit stop in Milan, where he was spotted with his agent Giuseppe Riso, fueling speculation about his future, with Juventus keeping an eye on the situation, Goal reports.
The Bianconeri have been interested ever since he left Milan. Despite a few inquiries, they have never come close to onboarding him. The Magpies paid €59M to acquire him from the Rossoneri, plus €6M add-ons, and 10 percent of a future sale. The midfielder is under contract until 2028 and earns €7M annually plus €2M bonuses.
Juventus kicked the tires again for Tonali during the summer following a front office shake-up. However, there weren’t the premises to do the deal. The star hasn’t been eager to return to Italy for now. It remains to be seen whether his stance will change in the future.
The 25-year-old has collected 66 appearances with Newcastle United, tallying 7 goals and 5 assists. He missed ten months due to a sports-betting-related suspension.
He’d be exactly what the doctor ordered to fix their midfield, and Italian players do all seem to eventually find their way back to Serie A. However, they need a long-shot combination of events to have a chance next summer. His team would have to have a subpar season and miss out on at least the Champions League; he’d have to push to leave, and there have been no hints of any malcontent or restlessness, and the Old Lady would have to use basically all his budget for one signing, as it’d be a massively expensive deal.
