The Athletic reports that Real Madrid and Toni Kroos are in talks over a potential return in a yet-to-be-defined sporting role, and that the club had been keen to extend him two years ago.

Kroos retired in 2024 after ten years at the Bernabéu. Aged 36, he has remained close to the club.

The report suggests he could follow a Zinédine Zidane-type path, starting as an adviser and representing Real at official events.

He could also work more closely with the first-team group, with the possibility of moving into coaching in time if he wished.

A 2014 World Cup winner and five-time Champions League winner with Real, Kroos is currently focusing on family life, co-hosts a podcast with his brother Felix, and runs the Toni Kroos Academy in Madrid.
