According to Sunderland Echo, Dodds is under consideration for a role at Ewood Park and Mowbray is keen to work with him again.

The 62-year-old first took charge of Rovers in February 2017 and spent five years at the club before moving to Sunderland after Alex Neil’s departure to Stoke City in August 2022.

Mowbray became a popular figure on Wearside, leading the Black Cats into the Championship play-offs, where they lost to Luton Town in the semi-finals.

He left Sunderland in early December 2023, later managed Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion, and has now been confirmed back at Ewood Park.

Mowbray said the job feels unfinished, spoke of the energy he brings to the role and the responsibility he feels to make supporters proud, adding that he is eager to meet a motivated group of players.

Dodds, currently assistant manager at Oxford United, worked with Mowbray at Sunderland and has previously praised his standards, integrity and the foundations he left for his successor.
