Former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo is back at the Stadium of Light this weekend, his first appearance on Wearside since his 2022/23 loan. He has spoken of his delight at the club’s season and his enduring affection for Sunderland.

"Tony Mowbray was like a dad and manager for me, we had such a good relationship," Amad said. He was speaking to Sky Sports.

"I really enjoyed my time in Sunderland honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the club. Everything I have to say is positive, now I'm one of their big fans because I watch every game when they play. I'm so happy for what they have done this season."

A message from Mowbray was then played, wishing him well for this weekend at the Stadium of Light, noting he has been following every game and praising Amad’s progress at United. He recalled spotting the winger’s talent on day one at Sunderland and urged him to keep enjoying his football.

Amad responded: "I'm emotional, he gave me a lot of confidence. The days after I arrived in the club he gave me the keys to shine. He gave me everything and I'm so grateful to him."

Benjamin Šeško is an early injury doubt for Saturday after going off at half-time in United's 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday. He collided with the advertising hoardings, which aggravated a shin problem, Michael Carrick said. Amad replaced him at half-time and could start if Šeško is not fit, with Joshua Zirkzee another option.
