Too arrogant? Tah defends teammate Olise

On the field, Michael Olise is one of FC Bayern’s most important players. Off the field, however, the Frenchman is often misunderstood due to his reserved nature. Teammate Jonathan Tah has now taken a clear stand and defended his teammate against accusations of arrogance.

On the field, Michael Olise consistently lets his skills speak for themselves. The attacking player, however, rarely gives interviews and prefers to stay in the background during public appearances. This calm and introverted nature often leads to differing perceptions.

While many fans appreciate the Frenchman for his composure, some observers mistakenly interpret his nonchalance as arrogance.

Jonathan Tah simply cannot understand this assessment.

Tah dispels the preconceptions

On Tim Gabel’s podcast, the Bayern defender spoke at length about his teammate and made it clear how Olise is perceived within the team. “What you see of him often makes him seem very introverted, but at the same time, he likes fashion—he likes to dress a little more wildly,” Tah explained.

That’s exactly what leads some people to draw the wrong conclusions. “Then a lot of people have asked: ‘Is he arrogant?’ And I say: ‘No, man,’” the center back clarified.

Tah then spoke very highly of the Frenchman’s character: “He’s such a nice guy, he’s so polite. He’s such a great guy and really funny.”

Cameras aren’t his thing

According to the national team player, the reason for Olise’s reserved demeanor is obvious. “He just doesn’t really like cameras. He doesn’t like sitting down for an interview and talking. That actually makes him even more likable to me,” Tah explained.

For the 30-year-old, this is by no means a matter of arrogance, but rather an introverted personality who consciously keeps out of the public eye off the soccer field. “People want a little more from him and might not get it, but that has nothing to do with him being arrogant,” Tah added.

On the field, there’s no doubt whatsoever about the attacking player’s importance. Olise is one of FC Bayern’s top performers and is expected to play a central role in Vincent Kompany’s team for years to come.

The Frenchman was linked with Real Madrid, among others, this summer. The “Royals” are said to have inquired about his situation but ultimately decided against taking concrete steps—in part to avoid straining their good relationship with FC Bayern.

In Munich, no one is even thinking about him leaving. The record champions are planning for the long term with Olise, who, despite his quiet demeanor, has long since become one of the faces of the team.

Jonathan Tah’s comments also show that the Frenchman is highly regarded within the locker room. To his teammates, Olise isn’t the aloof star he’s sometimes portrayed as—but rather a down-to-earth, polite, and humorous teammate whose personality is often misunderstood by the public.
