Brentford Women B fell to a 7-0 defeat against Tooting Bec on Sunday in their second Greater London Premier Division clash of the season.

Playing in their first away game of the 2024/25 campaign, Yannawit Khantharat’s side featured a mix of experienced and new B team players, with Chelsie Berry and Nalia Ali playing in their second game for the club.

It was a promising start for the Bees, as Holly Hawkes came inches away from scoring an opener inside the first minute. Her header from Rebekah Edwards’ cross went over the bar, however.

Despite the promising start, it was the home side who went ahead early, a defensive mistake leading to their opener.

Set pieces proved to be a winner for Tooting Bec across the day, as the home side scored their second, third and fourth goals in the first half from set pieces following free kicks given away by the Bees.

Speaking after the game, Khantharat said this would be an area of focus for the group moving forward.

“We have to go back and work on making sure we’re not giving away fouls too easily in the defensive third,” said Khantharat.

“We have to make sure on set pieces we have solid and tight marking.”

Coming out in the second half down 4-0, Brentford made two substitutions, bringing on Abigail Claringbold and Chelsie Berry.

The latter had an immediate impact as she almost found the Bees’ opener inside the opening two minutes. Running on to a superb through ball from Karen Abou-Abdallah, the new signing found herself one-on-one with Tooting Bec’s goalkeeper, however her shot went inches wide of the goal.

The home side wrestled back momentum and found their fifth goal through another set piece conversion.

They added another two goals to make it 7-0 in the second half, both scores coming from free kicks.

Speaking on the result, Khantharat said there were clear areas for his side to work on as they continually try to develop the squad individually and as a team.

“On open play, they did really well, defending and attacking. The main thing was giving fouls away too easily and that led to goals," explained Khantharat.

“We tried to build out from the back even though we were conceding goals, rather than doing the long balls … we try to focus on the (players’) development.”
