The January transfer window is almost upon us, and so here is a reminder of the most expensive sales by Serie A sides in the history of the division.
Fiorentina’s sale of Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus in the winter of 2022 remains both the most expensive sale and most expensive signing by a Serie A club. The Serbian is still on the same four-and-a-half year contract that he signed back then, and that deal is now set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
There is a new entry on the list at no.2 following Napoli’s sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain last winter. The Georgian, who went on to win the Champions League a few months later, brought in a fee of €70m for the Partenopei.

Dejan Kulusevski’s move from Atalanta to Juventus in the winter of 2020 ranks third on the all-time list of most expensive Serie A sales. The Swede is also the second-most expensive signing by a Serie A club of all time.
Krzysztof Piatek is the only player to feature twice on the list. His move from Genoa to Milan during the 2018-19 season ranks in fourth place, and his subsequent transfer from Milan to Hertha BSC the following year ranks in joint-ninth.
Genoa are also the surprise kings of the Serie A January sales: They have three entrants on the list with Piatek, Nicolo Rovella and his move to Juventus in 2020-21, plus the sale of Radu Dragusin to Tottenham Hotspur during the 2023-24 campaign.
Patrick Dorgu, who joined Manchester United from Lecce last winter, ranks in sixth on the list of all-time most expensive Serie A sales.
