Chelsea transfer target Liam Delap has claimed Cole Palmer is currently one of the best players in the world.

The Blues are set for a busy summer and are in the market for a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Chelsea could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players, with a number of stars surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Delap praises Palmer

A striker is the main priority and the Blues have identified Delap as one of their top transfer targets this summer.

Delap is available for £30m after Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League, and the 22-year-old has impressed with 12 league goals in his debut season.

Whether Delap ends up at Chelsea remains to be seen, but he’s claimed Palmer is currently one of the best players in the world.

“Him (Cole Palmer) and Macca (James McAtee) were both there behind me, and you know it helped me so much to score,” he told Sky Sports.

“To win games with them two behind me, it was so good to have two quality players like that. Obviously Cole now – the stuff he’s done in the last two years is incredible, and he is one of the better players in the world at the moment.”

Palmer continues to impress

Palmer is once again Chelsea’s top scorer with 15 goals and he made a timely return to form with a man of the match performance in last weekend’s win against Liverpool.

The 23-year-old scored his first goal in 18 matches with a late penalty, but despite his struggles he’s still been Chelsea’s main man this season.

Jermaine Jenas thinks Palmer could become one of the world’s best, whilst he’s also set to remain at Chelsea as it’s been reported there’s release clause in his contract this summer relating to Champions League football.

However, if the Blues want to keep their top stars long term they need to be playing Champions League football, and show they can challenge for and win the major trophies.
