This according to UK newspaper The Times, via FCInterNews. They report that the summer window could close on August 15th starting next summer, rather than at the end of August.

The summer transfer window is a hugely important period in the football calendar.

For a few months, big European clubs have the opportunity to chop and change their squads.

Big sales and signings dominate the headlines whilst teams are recharging between seasons.

The summer window is not the only period in which clubs can sell or sign players. There is also the January window, which gives teams a chance to bolster their squads in midseason.

But it is certainly the summer window where the majority of the most important business takes place.

The summer is the period when teams really build their strategies for their squads for the upcoming season, rather than just filling holes created by injuries.

As things stand, the transfer window does not actually close before the start of the season.

The campaign of all of Europe’s top leagues begins in mid-August.

On the other hand, the transfer window only ends right at the end of the month.

That means that teams typically play several matches before the end of the window. And therefore, coaches may not even know exactly what their squad is going to look like until a few matches into the campaign.

Naturally, this has been the cause of some complaints from a number of coaches.

Coaches – as well as players – seek stability.

The fact that the season is already in full swing when the window closes creates all the more deadline day drama.

But according to The Times, Europe’s top leagues are preparing to change that.

The UK newspaper report that the top European leagues are close to approving a change to the transfer window. It could be ending on August 15th starting with the 2025-26 season.

The Times report that the Premier League and La Liga have taken the lead in this initiative.

However, the newspaper report, Serie A and the Bundesliga are also ready to approve the plan.
