Pachuca perfect in Champions Cup Finals

CF Pachuca won its sixth Concacaf Champions Cup in its sixth appearance in the championship stage. The win maintains the club’s perfect streak in finals.

The Tuzos have now won the trophy during the 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009–10, 2016–17, and 2024 editions. The latest conquest also marks the fifth straight occasion that the team has won the tournament at home, either playing the second leg of a series or a one-game final at the Estadio Hidalgo.

Pachuca extends home unbeaten streak in the Champions Cup

Pachuca’s success in the competition extends an unbeaten streak over the course of three decades. In 31 home matches, the Tuzos hold a record of 28 victories, three draws and zero losses. The club has scored 76 goals and received 12 against in those encounters at the Estadio Hidalgo.

Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon has made an impact in his first months with CF Pachuca. He earned the Best Player Award, presented by Scotiabank after scoring a brace in the final.

Rondon also won the Top Scorer Award, presented by Qatar Airways, for his nine goals in the tournament. He had three multi-goal matches during the competition including consecutive hat-tricks in the Round of 16 second leg and quarter finals first leg.

A goal etched in history

Two new marks were reached in the history of the tournament with Rondon’s opening goal in the 2024 final. The match-winning goal is the 2,500th goal of the tournament since the format change in 2008-2009, and the 6,300th goal in the tournament’s history, dating back to the 1962 edition.

Ivan Barton becomes first referee to officiate three Concacaf Champions Cup Finals

History was also made in the center of the pitch as referee Ivan Barton officiated a Concacaf Champions Cup final match for the third time. In doing so, he surpassed the record of Mexican referee Benito Archundia, to become the referee with the most finals in the tournament's history.

The Salvadoran referee also became the Central American official with the most matches as the main referee in the tournament. Barton has been the main referee in 16 matches across six different editions of the Champions Cup.
