Torino sporting director Davide Vagnati has spoken about midfielder Samuele Ricci’s links with a move to Manchester City.

With Rodri injured, City have been linked with a host of deeper midfielders and one name which has been associated with the English champions is that of Torino’s Ricci, who has impressed for Italy over the last month or so.

He has become a vital part of Paolo Vanoli’s Il Toro side, playing as the deepest midfielder infront of the club’s back three.

Club sporting director Vagnati was recently asked about the links and he spoke to Sky Italia about it, not giving too much away.

He said, as relayed by Gazzetta Granata: “I don’t want to talk about Manchester or non Manchester [links]. It’s nice to retrace the purchase of Ricci, we took him when he was very young and I must say that it was an important operation.

“The president believed in it, like all of us, spending a significant amount. The boy was very good, he grew a lot from all points of view: I think he can play with any coach in any championship.”

Ricci has also been linked with Serie A side Lazio in recent months, but those links died after the sacking of Maurizio Sarri from the Roman club. Milan are also said to be an interested party.

The way the ex-Empoli man has grown, Italian clubs might find it difficult to afford him.
