Corinthians’ agreement with Torino for the loan, with an option to buy, of centre-back João Pedro Tchoca is in jeopardy after reports in Italy of a failed medical.
Sportitalia reports that the defender did not pass routine tests, while other Italian outlets say Torino have halted the deal pending further examinations.
Corinthians have not received a negative response from Torino regarding the negotiation so far.
If the failure is confirmed, João Pedro could return to Corinthians for the rest of the season. The club had agreed a €1.5 million loan fee, potentially rising to €7 million with a sale. Corinthians confirmed his travel on Sunday in an official note.
Torino are evaluating Kevin Jappert, 21, of Barracas Central in Argentina, who would fill their remaining non-EU slot. The European transfer window closes on Saturday, 31 January.
João Pedro has endured injuries at Corinthians’ academy, including a knee issue in October 2019, with his comeback delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2023 he suffered a serious ankle injury that ruled him out of Brazil Under-20 duty for friendly matches ahead of that year's World Cup.
Following his departure last weekend, Corinthians’ centre-back options are André Ramalho, Gustavo Henrique, Cacá and Gabriel Paulista. Renato continues to train separately from the main group.
