Torino have announced that their Dutch defender Perr Schuurs has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for the next six months. The 23-year-old was playing for Torino in their clash with Inter on Saturday, when he dropped down to the ground in agony following a challenge from Inter’s Nicolò Barella. Schuurs was brought off the pitch on a stretcher in the 50th minute of his side’s 3-0 defeat.
According to Tuttosport, the former Ajax and Fortuna Sittard centre-back needs knee surgery and he could miss the rest of the season. This is a big blow for Perr Schuurs and a huge loss for Torino, who are currently 14th in the Serie A table.
Schuurs joined Torino from Ajax in the summer of 2022, for a fee worth over €9m. During this summer he was on the radar of some top European clubs including West Ham and Liverpool, but Torino were able to keep hold of their star centre-back. Now, he’ll be out of action for a while.
