Toronto FC have completed the signing of United States international Josh Sargent from Norwich City in a deal that could rank among the largest in MLS history.
The 26-year-old striker joins for an initial fee of around $22 million (£16.3m), potentially rising to $27m (£19.97m) with add-ons. He has signed through to the 2030-31 season and will occupy a Designated Player slot.
The move brings an end to a protracted transfer saga that had effectively sidelined Sargent at Carrow Road. He had not featured for over a month after being moved out of the first-team picture amid growing uncertainty over his future.
In January, Sargent asked to be left out of an FA Cup tie against Walsall following Toronto’s approach, with manager Philippe Clement subsequently removing him from first-team duties.
Despite interest from elsewhere, the striker made clear his preference was a switch to MLS.
Sargent scored seven goals in 22 Championship appearances this season and leaves Norwich having netted 53 times in 146 league games across five years.
