Tottenham Player Ratings vs Everton as Spurs Draw Another Blank

Tottenham’s search for their first Premier League victory of the season continues after Roberto De Zerbi’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton.

There was energy, possession and plenty of purposeful football from Tottenham, particularly during the opening stages. What remained absent was the most important part of the exercise, a goal.

Spurs have now failed to score in the Premier League this season, and Everton were able to leave with a point after another afternoon in which Tottenham’s approach play promised considerably more than their finishing delivered.

Tottenham Start Brightly Against Everton

De Zerbi made four changes as Tottenham attempted to inject some urgency into their campaign.

Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush started together in attack for the first time, while injuries meant Tottenham were again without several established options.

There were encouraging signs early on. Archie Gray pushed forward regularly, Savio attempted to unsettle Everton with his dribbling, and Tottenham moved the ball confidently through midfield.

Jan Paul van Hecke might have opened the scoring after Andy Robertson’s excellent free kick, while Mateus Fernandes also found himself in a promising position before choosing another touch rather than shooting first time.

Those moments summed up much of Tottenham’s afternoon.

They reached useful areas. They created situations from which chances might have developed. Too often, the final decision allowed Everton to recover.

Everton Threat Exposes Tottenham Frustration

Everton carried their own danger and ultimately created several of the clearer opportunities.

Antonin Kinsky was required to make three saves, including one to repair his own mistake after presenting possession to Kiernan Dewsbury Hall.

Behind him, Micky van de Ven and Van Hecke were impressive. Tottenham’s captain produced another assured display, while Van Hecke looked comfortable both defensively and when stepping into midfield areas.

Rodrigo Bentancur was equally influential before his withdrawal shortly after the hour mark. Sandro Tonali also showed signs of improving sharpness, repeatedly switching play with accurate diagonal passes.

Much of Tottenham’s work between their own penalty area and the edge of Everton’s box was convincing. Their problems began once the game demanded invention, movement and ruthlessness.

Solanke Struggles as Spurs Search for Goals

Solanke looked understandably short of rhythm after five months without starting a Premier League match.

His touch was occasionally loose, his hold-up play lacked its usual authority and Tottenham struggled to build sustained attacks around him.

Marmoush offered brief flashes without imposing himself on the contest, while Savio repeatedly beat defenders before struggling to make the right choice afterwards.

De Zerbi introduced Mathys Tel, Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison in search of inspiration.

Bergvall came closest, forcing Jordan Pickford into a late save with a curling effort towards the bottom corner.

It was Tottenham’s clearest warning and arrived far too late.
