Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon with the club interested in a record deal for the forward.

Gyokeres has been heavily linked with Arsenal and Chelsea following a spectacular first season in Portuguese football, that saw the Swedish striker score 43 goals and provide 15 assists in all competitions.

Ange Postecoglou is keen to bring in an out-and-out centre-forward this summer and Spurs have been credited with interest in Ivan Toney.

However, GiveMeSport are claiming that Spurs will compete with their London rivals for Gyokeres, who has a release clause of €100m (£84m) at the Estádio José Alvalade.

Spurs are unable to match that fee and are hoping to sign the 26-year-old for a lower price, but have a firm interest in signing the Sweden international.

Gyokeres signed for Sporting from Coventry City in a €20m deal last summer, after impressing in the Championship across his three seasons with the Sky Blues.

Last season he scored 29 league goals to win the Bola de Prata as Portugal’s top scorer to fire Ruben Amorim’s side to the Primeira Liga title.
