According to Superdeporte, Tottenham have won the race to sign the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder from West Ham after an agreement was reached for a fee close to €100m.

He enjoyed a standout season at West Ham, emerging as one of the Premier League's revelations. His form drew interest from several European heavyweights, including Real Madrid.

The deal is set to be completed for about £85m, roughly €98m, making it the most expensive signing in Tottenham's history.

The agreement meets West Ham's financial demands. The club stood firm throughout negotiations and refused to lower the price for one of their main stars.

The transfer brings to a close one of the summer window's longest-running sagas.
