Spurs are making unwanted history this season

Tottenham's miserable start of the season in front of goal has been branded as "diabolical".

For the first time in their history, Spurs have failed to score a goal in any of their first four games of a league season.

The latest stalemate was against Everton, who similarly struggled to create chances but saw the best two fall their way before the full-time whistle blew on the 0-0 draw.

Tottenham spent heavily in the summer, signing 10 players and committing more than £380million in transfer fees, which included the likes of £85million on Savio and a commitment of a further £60m on Omar Marmoush.

But the pair, along with Dominic Solanke, Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, could not test Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal despite a very lively start from the hosts.

Lucas Bergvall, fresh from signing a new contract, came the closest to scoring late on, but come full-time the players and manager Roberto De Zerbi were met with boos from sections of the home crowd.

"I've never known a team to get booed off more than Spurs," said pundit Robbie Mustoe on American coverage of the game.

Jamie Redknapp offered answers to the boos, telling Sky Sports: "I thought Tottenham would have problems this season, but not in the goalscoring department.

"With players like Solanke, Marmoush, Maddison and even midfielders like [Sandro] Tonali, [James] Maddison and [Mateus] Fernandes, you would think they would somehow be able to get a goal.

"To not score a Premier League goal in six hours of football is absolutely diabolical from Tottenham."

Spurs are 17th and on two points after last weekend’s stalemate at Nottingham Forest and Everton remain unbeaten after a third draw of the campaign.
