Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United in a deal reported to be worth around £85m, making him the most expensive player in the club's history. The 21-year-old joins Spurs after an impressive campaign despite West Ham's relegation from the Premier League.
Fernandes attracted interest from several top clubs, but Tottenham won the race for his signature as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The midfielder is expected to add creativity, energy, and technical quality to the heart of Spurs' midfield.
That club-record fee could be broken within the next 24 hours though with Spurs in the market for Newcastle midfield Sandro Tonali who could move for £100m.
