Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz has joined Sevilla on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season.

Spurs were not actively shopping Veliz around this month, not least due to a knee injury sustained in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve, but they received an offer from Sevilla late on Wednesday night.

The club opted to accept the bid and Veliz, who is nearing a return to fitness after this knee problem, travelled to Andalusia for a medical, with Sevilla finalising the move just before the transfer deadline.

Veliz only joined Tottenham in the summer from Rosario Central and was initially planned to be slowly integrated into the first-team following his £13m.

However, injuries to other forwards and positive performances in training saw the 20-year-old force his way into Ange Postecoglou's immediate plans, making a series of cameos off the bench and scoring his first goal in English football in a 4-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in December.

Tottenham have been knocked out of both domestic cups and are not competing in Europe this season, meaning their final 16 Premier League games are the only fixtures remaining for them this campaign.

Young striker Dane Scarlett, who was recently recalled from a loan spell at Ipswich Town, has taken Veliz's place on the Spurs bench in recent games, while versatile forward Jamie Donley has made some bright appearances as a substitute too.

Veliz joins a Sevilla side battling relegation from La Liga after an awful first half to the season.
