Tottenham want to sign a new striker in 2026, given that it is an area where there have been concerns generated in recent months – and one of their reported targets is Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta has been in prolific form in the Premier League over the last 2-3 seasons, and there is chances for him to leave Crystal Palace, with whom he is contracted to 2027.

As per Football Insider, Mick Brown has revealed that Crystal Palace are determined to secure a new contract agreement with Mateta, who is currently happy at Selhurst Park.

“Palace still want Mateta to extend his contract. It’s going to take some judgement on Palace’s end to assess how they think the discussions are going, and then to plan accordingly. If it starts becoming clear that he’s not going to sign, they want to maximise the fee they’re going to get.

“I don’t think they’ll let it get to the same situation with Guehi where if they don’t take the offer he’s going to leave on a free, they’ll sell him before that. But from what I’m told, I don’t think there have been any indications that he won’t sign a new deal, and things are still in the balance at the moment.

“Palace, of course, don’t want to lose him. He’s a crucial part of their plans, and that’s been clear with how important he has been not just with his goals, but with his all-round play. They’d certainly miss him if he were to leave, so I expect talks over that new contract will be ongoing as they try to convince him to stay.

“It sounds by all accounts like he’s happy at Palace, so that will play in their favour. If it were up to me, he’d stay at Palace, because I think the environment, the level they’re at, and the way they set up, suits him perfectly. He might not get that elsewhere.”

It remains to be seen whether Mateta does sign a new deal at Crystal Palace, but if not, Tottenham will surely be lurking.
