Tottenham are set to try and reward Luka Vušković with a new contract.

The Premier League side wishes to reward the Croatian’s remarkable progress made on loan with Hamburg this term.

The 19-year-old is already on a long-term contract with Roberto De Zerbi’s side, with it set to expire in the summer of 2030.

Tottenham are protecting their asset in Luka Vušković

It’s far from surprising that Spurs are prepared to take contract action this summer, given the developmental leap Bayern-linked Vušković has taken in 2025/26.

“Tottenham have held some talks about Luka Vušković in the last few days, and it seems that he wants to stay at Tottenham (and they want him back),” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“However, it’s not just a matter of playing time. The Croatian’s management will talk with the club about a new contract.

“He made a big, big step in his playing career with this loan spell at Hamburg. Many top clubs now have him firmly on their radar. So, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham reward the centre-back with a contract that reflects his development, or (if the offer isn’t good enough and there aren’t enough minutes on the table) if he’s forced to go search for another club.”

However, it’s important to emphasise that a deal has yet to be completed between the two parties.

Certainly, there remains the sharp risk that the teenager could call time on his career in North London, with Tottenham still battling relegation at the back end of the Premier League season.

Spurs find themselves two points above West Ham in the relegation zone with two top-flight games remaining.

How impressive has Vušković been in the Bundesliga?

Very. At 19 years of age, Luka Vušković has already demonstrated he has the potential to be a leading Bundesliga centre-half.

Stat provider Fotmob have the Hamburg loanee listed as one of the top ten centre-backs in the German top-flight this term – ahead of both Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah.

Quite remarkable, given that he’s at least seven years younger (Nico Schlotterbeck is the second-youngest at 26) than the next youngest top-performing centre-back.

And unfortunately for Tottenham, this will have put Europe’s elite outfits on red alert this summer.

Liverpool, for instance, may find themselves in need of reinforcements, with Ibrahima Konate yet to sign a new contract.

While FC Bayern could yet sell one, or both, of Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito, which would force them to enter the market for a new defender.

Should Spurs be relegated, it seems a matter of inevitability that Vušković will be off to discover pastures new.

Bayern could have signed Luka Vušković for £2.6m

Bayern Munich may get a second chance at signing the Croatian this summer.

But it shouldn’t be forgotten that the Bavarians could have landed Luka Vušković for a pittance at €5m [£4.3m] (option to buy plus add-ons).

Fat chance of that figure being accessible to interested parties this summer.
