Spurs want three more signings completed before summer deadline

Tottenham have completed the first part of a stunning double deal for Omar Marmoush and Savinho, but are running out of time to register the former for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Charlton.

Savio’s move from Manchester City was officially confirmed on Tuesday morning and Standard Sport understands that Spurs have agreed to pay £85million to sign the Brazilian winger.

Spurs and City are also in talks regarding Marmoush, but they have yet to reach an agreement over the Egyptian forward.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements and produced a toothless display in the final third as they were emphatically beaten 3-0 by Brentford on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

Spurs have a chance to remedy their atrocious start to the campaign when they host Championship side Charlton in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Entering the tournament a round earlier than the nine Premier League clubs involved in European competition this season, Spurs have been handed a favourable draw as they look for a reaction to their humbling defeat against Brentford.

Spurs will be expected to get the better of Charlton, but Nathan Jones’ team are certainly no pushovers and stunned West Ham 2-1 at the London Stadium last weekend.

De Zerbi will warn against complacency, with his side searching for a morale-boosting victory to change the mood around the club.

However, it is unlikely he will be able to call upon Marmoush, with the deadline for the Egypt international to be registered to face Charlton drawing nearer.

Current EFL rules state that a player must be registered by 12 noon on the day before the relevant game, meaning Spurs will need to have signed and registered any new players by midday on Tuesday in order for them to play against Charlton.

"Documents have to be submitted prior to 12 noon on the day prior to the date of the relevant match. So, for matches to be played on Tuesday, 3 February, forms will have to be received prior to 12 noon on deadline day,” EFL rules stated around the January transfer window, before last season’s Carabao Cup semi-finals.

"Any applications received after 12 noon on deadline day (and before the window closes) will still be processed, but players will not be eligible until Wednesday, 4 February."
