Cristian Romero has handed Tottenham an unexpected boost by returning early from international duty.

The Spurs captain was due to be one of the players returning late in the week from South America, before going straight into Saturday's trip to West Ham.

However, Romero picked up a yellow card in Argentina's World Cup qualifying win over Venezuela on Friday.

That has left him suspended for the clash with Ecuador, which will take place in the early hours of Wednesday morning UK time.

Romero will instead benefit from some extra rest and he returned early to north London over the weekend.

Footage posted by Spurs on Monday showed the centre-back in training and he will now have a full week with his club team-mates ahead of the return to Premier League action at the London Stadium.

There was more good news for Spurs as Radu Dragusin was also involved in the session.

The 23-year-old has been out since February with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks and is now ready to participate in first-team training.

However, Dragusin has been left out of Spurs' squad for the league phase of the Champions League and head coach Thomas Frank has suggested that the defender could still be a couple of months away from being in contention to play.

"Of course it is an ACL," Frank said before the international break.

"I'm always a little bit more, not worried but just aware that it takes time. When you've been out of football for nine months, you know, you need to get in. It's not enough to have a six-week pre-season.

"You need to take a little bit more time, but it's positive and and some surprise and come back quicker, of course."
