In a recent report, The Northern Echo revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney. It has been stated that Spurs would have to rival Manchester United and Crystal Palace in the race to land the English talent this summer.
Hackney managed to catch the eye with his performances at the centre of Middlesbrough’s midfield last season. The 23-year-old has scored six goals and secured eight assists in 41 matches for the English outfit in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The English sensation is currently among the best central midfielders in the EFL Championship. Therefore, Spurs would do well to win the race for his services later this year.
His current contract at the Riverside Stadium will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Hackney is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create some decent chances in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
The English midfield ace is a good dribbler with the ball as well and doesn’t mind putting in a tireless shift for his team defensively in the middle of the park. Hackney is primarily a holding midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Spurs manage to snap him up this summer.
Hackney would add more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Hackney has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to pursue this summer. Therefore, De Zerbi would be wise to try everything in his power to get him on board in this transfer period. However, Spurs would have to give him some time to adjust to life in the Premier League before they can get the best out of the player.
