In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. It is believed that Spurs would have to rival Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton and Crystal Palace in the race to land the English talent next year.

Gallagher’s Impressive Form In La Liga

Gallagher enjoyed a good run of form at the Madrid club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old scored four goals and grabbed six assists in 50 matches for Diego Simeone’s side last season on all fronts.

The English talent offered decent protection for his teammates at the back as he made 45 tackles, 23 blocks, 20 interceptions and 23 clearances in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 85% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Madrid club will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to get a deal done for him on the cheap next year.

Gallagher is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with it from midfield. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and can strike the ball with venom from long range.

The English talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Chelsea and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.

Gallagher would add more quality and depth to Spurs boss Thomas Frank’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the North London club in the coming years.

At 25, Gallagher has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for Tottenham to consider in this transfer window. All in all, he would be well worth the fight, so Spurs should focus on going all out to win the race for his services.
