In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Hoffenheim defender Stefan Posch who is currently playing on loan at Bologna. It has been claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move to acquire the services of Austrian talent.

Posch’s Impressive Form On Loan At Bologna This Season

Posch is experiencing a solid campaign in Italian football as he has put in a string of impressive displays at the heart of Bologna’s defence. The 25-year-old has registered two goals and one assist in 11 league matches for the Italian club thus far.

The 25-year-old has been a reliable performer on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 3.0 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after making 70.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract with his parent club Hoffenheim is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Spurs should consider arranging a cut-price move for him this winter or at the end of this season.

Is Posch The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?

Posch is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive. Standing at 1.88m, the Austrian talent can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels but needs to work on improving his passing accuracy. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so.

At the moment, Posch is playing some of his best football which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue this winter. He could help the North London club challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next few years.

At 25, Posch’s prime years are ahead of him, so Tottenham boss Antonio Conte could unlock the best out of him if he managed to bring him on board in the not-too-distant future.

We can expect Posch to add more bite and steel to Conte’s defence and increase competition for places within his match-day squad. All in all, he will be a good fit for the North London club‘s defensive needs this year.
