Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven would choose Liverpool over Manchester United if the Anfield club join the race for his services this summer, according to journalist and transfer insider Ben Jacobs.

Man United have been recently linked with the Dutchman as they eye defensive reinforcements at the Old Trafford club.

However, Jacobs is confident that Van de Ven will pick Liverpool over them as the opportunity to play alongside Reds captain Virgil van Dijk at club level appeals to him.

“If Liverpool enter the race, Van de Ven is only making one decision between Liverpool and Manchester United, and he is picking Liverpool. And I say that with absolute confidence.”

The Merseyside club are looking to sign another centre-back even if Ibrahima Konate signs a contract extension, and the Spurs star fits the bill.

However, the Reds have not made any move to sign Van de Ven and will only have a realistic chance of signing him if Tottenham go down.

The North London club will not be able to hold on to the Netherlands international if they find themselves in the Championship, and most of their top players will be leaving.

Spurs are currently 18th heading into their remaining five league fixtures of the season, but they are just two points off safety and are desperate to survive the drop.

Cristian Romero is likely to leave even if they remain in the Premier League at the end of the season, and Tottenham will ensure Van de Ven does not follow suit.

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi has to ensure they do not go down, and a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday will be a huge boost to their survival chances.
