Spurs Injury Update: Fresh Concerns Mount for Tottenham

Tottenham continue to wrestle with an unforgiving injury list, even as a new chapter begins in the dugout. The 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in Igor Tudor’s first Premier League match offered encouragement in effort, yet it also highlighted the physical strain running through this Spurs squad.

With only 13 senior players available for the north London derby, Spurs remain stretched. Dominic Solanke returned from illness and Richarlison made the bench, small mercies in a season defined by enforced absences. Below, a full Tottenham injury update as Spurs look to steady themselves in the weeks ahead.

Defensive Setbacks Testing Spurs Depth

Pedro Porro has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Burnley. The right back has missed five matches and was unable to feature against Arsenal, despite optimism around his recovery. Fulham away on March 1 is considered a realistic target for his return, a boost Spurs sorely need in wide areas.

Kevin Danso remains out after tearing a ligament in his big toe during the 2-0 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. His absence has coincided with defensive instability, particularly with Cristian Romero unavailable. Former head coach Thomas Frank confirmed that Danso has spoken with a consultant” but “it will still be a few weeks before he’s available.”

Destiny Udogie is another concern. Injured during the 2-0 loss at Old Trafford, he faces four to five weeks on the sidelines. As Frank explained, “Unfortunately, Destiny has a hamstring injury and will be out for the next four to five weeks.” Spurs must now navigate a demanding schedule without two first choice full backs.

Midfield Worries and Long Term Recoveries

Lucas Bergvall underwent ankle surgery following the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on January 20. Encouragingly, his rehabilitation is described as “moving in the right direction.” A return in late March or early April is possible, though it leaves him in a race to be fit for Sweden’s World Cup play off.

Rodrigo Bentancur, after hamstring surgery in mid January, is expected to miss much of the remainder of the season. James Maddison, recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in pre season, is not anticipated to feature again this campaign.

Attacking Absences Deepen Spurs Challenge

Mohammed Kudus, sidelined since the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, travelled to Amsterdam to consult a specialist as he works towards full fitness. A return after the March international break is the current aim.

Wilson Odobert’s season is effectively over following serious knee surgery. Spurs stated, “Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery, and will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff. We’re all behind you, Wilson.”

Dejan Kulusevski’s patella injury remains complex. Frank admitted, “It’s a complicated injury where it’s important to make sure there’s no pain in the knee.” His timeline remains uncertain.

For Spurs, recovery is now as crucial as tactics. Results will matter, yet so too will patience as key players edge back towards the pitch.
