Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall is reportedly open to joining Chelsea before today’s transfer deadline.

The Spurs star made it clear earlier this summer that he wants to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club.

Lilywhites manager Roberto De Zerbi and sporting director Johan Lange held talks with Bergvall and it had appeared that they had successfully convinced the 20-year-old to stay.

He started Spurs’ Premier League opener against Brentford and was also in the starting XI against Charlton Athletic.

Bergvall was not involved against Newcastle United last weekend, and he is keen on joining Chelsea.

The Blues want to strengthen in the middle of the park, with manager Xabi Alonso desperate for more control in games.

The Tottenham midfielder has now emerged as a late target for Chelsea and it is unknown whether a deal could be got over the line before 11 pm.

Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is expected to sign for Juventus today, and Spurs could be reluctant to lose another player in such a crucial position.

Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur and Archie Gray are options for Tottenham in midfield, but De Zerbi will be keen to hold on to Bergvall.

However, the Blues could push for a deal with Argentine international Enzo Fernandez likely to join Manchester City.

A guarantee of a place in Alonso’s starting XI could be enough to convince Bergvall, and Spurs will hope to hold on to him beyond tonight.
