In a recent report, Roma Giallorossa mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Roma ace Roger Ibanez this summer. It has been stated that Spurs would have to pay €25m to land him in this ongoing transfer window.

Ibanez’s Decent Form In Italian Football Last Season

Ibanez experienced a good campaign at Roma recently as he was responsible for putting in a handful of impressive displays at the heart of Jose Mourinho’s defence. The Canela-born defensive ace featured in 48 matches for the Italian outfit last season, scoring three goals across all competitions.

The Brazilian sensation was a consistent performer on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 2.0 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per game in Serie A football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 88% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).

Ibanez is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2025. Hence, Tottenham have got no choice but to meet Roma’s demands for their prized asset if they want to sign him soon.

What Will Ibanez Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?

Ibanez can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He can spot the danger well and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed.

The Brazilian talent excels at playing his way out from the back. He can even use his strong 1.86m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels inside his half. Ibanez mainly operates as a centre-half but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or function as a right-back if asked to do so by his manager.

We can expect Ibanez to bring more quality to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He might even help Spurs compete for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
