Liverpool are not pursuing a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence despite recent transfer speculation, according to journalist Alex Crook.
The 26-year-old put in a solid shift in a Tottenham side fighting relegation last term, while also playing a key role for England during their World Cup campaign.
As a result, Inter Milan had set their sights on prising him away earlier this summer, only for those ambitions to be extinguished after Tottenham’s substantial demands stretched beyond the Serie A giants’ reach.

More recently, another avenue emerged through Liverpool, with claims indicating the Reds were interested in bringing Spence to Anfield.
There have also been suggestions Liverpool were far from the only admirers, with interest in the defender extending well beyond Merseyside.

Liverpool though are not chasing Spence this summer, with suggestions they are wide of the mark.
Whether that stance could yet shift is not yet clear, while the prospect of business between the two clubs later in the window cannot be completely discounted.
Tottenham are in discussions with Cody Gakpo’s camp as they press ahead with their pursuit of the winger, with negotiations poised to accelerate in the coming days.
Whether the Lilywhites can make progress in their pursuit may ultimately be dictated by Liverpool’s move for Paris Sent-Germain star Bradley Barcola.

The Reds are also working on a move for another PSG winger in Ibrahim Mbaye in an attempt to lure the youngster to Anfield, although Bayer Leverkusen remain firmly in the race.
Meanwhile, suggestions of Liverpool are not pursuing Spence will come as a source of encouragement for Tottenham, who can continue planning with the defender while remaining alert to potential interest from elsewhere.
Defensive departures could still materialise in north London, however, with Atletico Madrid continuing to work towards an agreement for Cristian Romero.
