Tottenham’s predicted approach for tonight’s trip to Newcastle reflects a side searching for rhythm rather than merely refining detail. Thomas Frank “is likely to keep tweaking his team as Tottenham travel to face Newcastle tonight,” with recent results demanding further recalibration. Spurs arrive on the back of “four matches without a win in the Premier League after their 2-1 home defeat by Fulham over the weekend,” a run that has sharpened scrutiny around both shape and selection.

Frank experimented heavily against Fulham, opting for “a system without a left winger,” a move that “didn’t work.” The expectation at St James’ Park is therefore “yet another different formation and lineup,” an admission that trust in tactical continuity remains elusive as Tottenham seek balance between control and penetration.

There is at least one guaranteed change. “Cristian Romero will return from suspension,” bolstering the defensive core, while “Djed Spence could come in at left back in place of Destiny Udogie,” an option that aligns with Frank’s preference for athletic width in difficult away fixtures.

The midfield conundrum persists. Frank “has opted for a more ambitious midfield in the last couple of matches but it has not brought results,” which could prompt a return to his “preferred Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur partnership,” a pairing seen as offering the positional discipline currently missing.

Attacking selections remain fluid. “Xavi Simons did not start any of the three matches last week and throwing him in away at Newcastle would be a big ask,” opening the door for energy options such as “Pape Matar Sarr,” who could “add further energy and physicality to the midfield.”
Up front, “Randal Kolo Muani was one of the few to come out of the Fulham match with any credit and deserves to keep his place if fit,” a rare note of positivity amid an otherwise uneven attacking display.
On the left wing, where structure may be restored, “Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson are the most likely options,” with “the Frenchman seemingly ahead in the pecking order.”
Predicted Tottenham XI: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Palhinha, Bentancur, Kudus, Sarr, Odobert, Kolo Muani
