Tottenham Hotspur turned down the chance to sign Colombian striker Jhon Duran on loan on the winter transfer deadline day, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club have had their squad decimated by injuries this term, but manager Thomas Frank decided against signing the former Aston Villa striker.
The 22-year-old ended his time in the Premier League with 20 goals in 78 games for the Midlands club and was keen on joining Tottenham.
However, they opted to stick with Randal Kolo Muani, having decided not to end his loan deal.
“Tottenham were offered the possibility to sign Jhon Duran on loan from Fenerbahce, who is on loan from Al-Nassr,” Romano revealed on the Here We Go podcast this evening.
“He was offered to Tottenham as a last-minute chance for Spurs. The club decided against it.
“It was a possibility that was offered because some people in the industry thought that Tottenham were going to break the loan for Randal Kolo Muani to go to Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain.
“So that was a possibility, but Tottenham decided to continue with Kolo Muani. He started the last two games, so they decided to trust the player and turn down the opportunity to sign Duran, who was keen on this possibility.”
Spurs defender Cristian Romero was far from impressed with the lack of much-needed additions to the squad in the last transfer window, insisting they only had 11 players available for the Manchester City game.
Tottenham signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and defender Souza from Santos, before adding Hearts forward James Wilson on loan on transfer deadline day to their under-21s squad.
It appears they were satisfied with their winter window, which was why they did not bother to add Duran to their attack despite his experience and quality.
They will hope their current players stay fit for the rest of the season. Frank cannot afford any more injuries, and Spurs need a turnaround after an underwhelming domestic campaign.
