Tottenham Hotspur host Borussia Dortmund tonight, aiming to put aside their domestic struggles and secure a fourth consecutive Champions League home win.
Embattled head coach Thomas Frank has entered a “make-or-break” period at the club, amid reports of intense board-level discussions following recent league defeats.
Despite the pressure, Spurs remain well-positioned in the Champions League, currently 11th and unbeaten in 23 home European club matches since 2020.
However, a significant availability crisis means Frank will be forced to name a threadbare squad for this high-stakes encounter.
Thomas Frank must navigate this fixture with perhaps the thinnest squad in the competition, as up to 14 players could miss the match.
Ben Davies becomes the latest casualty after suffering a fractured ankle, joining James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, João Palhinha, and Richarlison on the injury list.
Furthermore, Micky van de Ven serves a suspension, while Pape Matar Sarr remains unavailable following his participation in the AFCON final.
Notably, Frank has made the “tough decision” to register Dominic Solanke for the Champions League squad in place of Mathys Tel, rendering the latter ineligible for this stage.
Consequently, Solanke is poised to lead the line immediately upon his return to fitness. Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani will likely support him in attack.
In midfield, the injury-ravaged squad leaves Frank with little choice but to deploy teenagers Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in a makeshift double pivot.
Tottenham Hotspur Predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Danso, Spence; Gray, Bergvall; Odobert, Simons, Kolo Muani; Solanke
