Tottenham Hotspur are once again making headlines, this time reigniting their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. As reported by The Telegraph via Sky Sports News, Spurs had a bid rejected for the England international during the winter transfer window, but they have not walked away from the deal. With Liverpool also reportedly keen, Spurs are eyeing a potential hijacking under new head coach Thomas Frank.
While some may wonder why Spurs are pushing for another centre-back, the answer is rooted in squad dynamics. Tottenham already boast Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies and Archie Gray as defensive options. However, The Telegraph notes “there is uncertainty over the future of Romero,” which could leave a significant gap.
Romero’s injury record and occasional disciplinary issues have left Tottenham exposed in past seasons. Micky van de Ven has been outstanding when fit, but with the intensity of Premier League and European football, depth is no luxury, it is a necessity. Guehi’s arrival would bolster the squad not only in numbers but in quality, adding leadership and Premier League experience.

Guehi has just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park, putting Crystal Palace in a difficult negotiating position. Newcastle have previously placed bids, but Tottenham and Liverpool are now seen as front-runners. According to the report, Spurs are “in the mix,” suggesting they are monitoring the situation carefully and could make a fresh offer soon.
For Palace, selling Guehi this summer might be the last opportunity to secure a significant fee, with him currently valued at around £45m. For Spurs, it represents a chance to snatch a homegrown international, still only 24, whose composure and ball-playing abilities fit perfectly with Thomas Frank’s tactical vision.
Liverpool, now managed by Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp’s departure, are believed to be admirers of Guehi too. Having just won the Premier League title, Liverpool’s financial and competitive pull cannot be ignored. Tottenham will need to be both decisive and ambitious if they hope to beat off such elite competition.
There is no doubt that the months ahead will be decisive. With Spurs eager to close the gap to the Champions League places, adding a player of Guehi’s calibre could be one of the most significant moves they make.
As a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, this report lights a real spark of excitement. Marc Guehi is exactly the type of player we should be targeting — young, Premier League-proven and with leadership potential. His performances at Crystal Palace have been outstanding, especially considering the pressure he has faced as captain in key games.
Thomas Frank, known for organising resilient defensive units at Brentford, would relish working with someone like Guehi. While Romero’s future may be uncertain, even if he stays, having someone like Guehi next to him or rotating across the back line is a no-brainer. Micky van de Ven’s pace, Romero’s aggression and Guehi’s calm reading of the game could form one of the most exciting defensive trios in the league.
What excites me most is the signal this would send. Beating Liverpool to a top transfer target would show Spurs mean business. We have too often been nearly men, but with Daniel Levy backing Frank and strengthening with proven Premier League players, we could push not just for top four but maybe even beyond. This feels like a summer where Spurs can truly turn ambition into silverware.
