Tottenham have launched an internal audit after a spate of injuries, with the retractable pitch at their stadium under scrutiny. Players missed 370 matches through injury this season, the highest total in the Premier League.

Sky Sports reports that new performance director Dan Lewindon initiated the review to establish the causes. The audit is said to have highlighted weak communication and a lack of collective decision-making at a club that finished 17th and narrowly avoided relegation.

Lewindon is also concerned about the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pitch. Over the past two seasons, injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Radu Dragusin, James Maddison and Ben Davies have occurred at home.

In the coming weeks, the club will run detailed tests to determine whether their surface differs from other Premier League pitches.

Attention is also turning to the medical department. Non-executive chairman Peter Charrington said on Monday the club would place particular emphasis on improving standards in medical and performance areas.
