Tottenham legend King sends message to current players amid tough run | OneFootball

Former Tottenham captain Ledley King has backed the current Spurs squad to turn their form around, insisting confidence will be key.

King believes there have been encouraging signs in recent performances, particularly during the opening stages of matches, but says Spurs have not made enough of their strongest periods.

“I’d say confidence is huge in football,” King said, speaking after being inducted into Spurs’ Hall of Fame.

“The last few games have been positive in terms of the performance, especially the start of the game. The first half has been good.

“But if you don’t take your opportunities, and you know that there are so many good teams in this league, they’re going to come back into the game and get their chances.”

King admitted Tottenham’s failure to capitalise when on top has been the most frustrating aspect of their recent displays.

“That’s the disappointing thing, that we’ve not been able to capitalise on our good periods,” he added.

“All the lads can continue to do is keep believing in themselves, keep working hard, sticking together as a team.

“Most of them have been through some difficult periods in the last couple of seasons, and that’s something they can draw on how to get out of this.”

Reflecting on being part of the club’s Hall of Fame, King added: “I always say that you think about the start of your career many times, but you don’t think too much about the end of it, so for it to end this way, to be amongst some of the great players that are representing this football club is really humbling.”
