erge Aurier has urged his former club Tottenham to appoint Ryan Mason as their new manager on a permanent basis.
Mason is in his second spell as caretaker boss at Spurs and wants the job full-time. Aurier made 110 appearances for the club between 2017 and 2021, playing under Mason at the end of his final season in north London.
Now at Nottingham Forest, Aurier said: “It’s been difficult for Spurs, but [the season] has been difficult for everyone. I am really happy for the new manager, because he has a good idea for the team.
“When they sacked [Jose] Mourinho, he [Mason] picked the team and we did well. They need to give him one chance to finish the season and maybe to start next season, because he has the mentality of the club. For me, he is really good manager.”
Asked whether Spurs should appoint Mason full-time, Aurier said: “Of course. Why not? It makes sense to try. If he picks the team each week, why not try him?
“He knows the players, he knows everyone at the club, and he has experience. Not much, because he is young, but he has the character to keep that team [together] and to do a good job. It is difficult always to change the manager every time. They have to believe in him and give him a chance.”
