Micky van de Ven unusually shaky and Rodrigo Bentancur lucky not to be sent off in latest home defeat for Spurs
Tottenham suffered yet more derby misery against Chelsea as they fell to a 1-0 defeat on home soil.
Only once since 2018 have Spurs beaten the Blues in the Premier League and there never looked like being an improvement on that record here.
Joao Pedro scored in the first half and that was all Chelsea needed to take the three points, Tottenham failing to muster any sort of response as their woeful home form continued.
Here’s how Standard Sport’s Matt Verri rated the Spurs players...
Guglielmo Vicario 9
Stepped up yet again for Spurs. Two brilliant first-half saves to deny Joao Pedro and had little chance for the goal. Stunning stop from Joao Pedro in stoppage time, too. Heroics kept it respectable.
Pedro Porro 4
Poor clearance let Joao Pedro in for big early chance. Really poor set-piece delivery and Alejandro Garnacho had the beating of him. Off his usual standards.
Kevin Danso 4
Looked ragged at times, particularly early in the second half. Loose on the ball and shrugged off it by Joao Pedro. Replaced on the hour mark.
Micky van de Ven 5
Unusually shaky. Punished for terrible decision to try and dribble out for Chelsea’s goal. Unable to bring calm to what was a frantic performance from the Spurs defence.
Djed Spence 5
One of several players at fault for goal when getting caught on the ball. Looked more secure defensively than most of his team-mates, even when switching over to the right late on.
Joao Palhinha 6
Strong in the tackle as ever and at least looked up for the occasion. Cut a frustrated figure at times, but went in strong on Moises Caicedo and did his job effectively.
Rodrigo Bentancur 4
Lucky to stay on the pitch for dreadful challenge on Reece James. Too safe in possession and offered no real protection from Chelsea counters.
Pape Matar Sarr 3
Game passed him by. Really struggled in the No10 role, offering no real threat in attack.
Mohammed Kudus 6
Isolated but tried to make things happen by himself. Took too long on the ball sometimes but hard to blame him when given little options.
Lucas Bergvall N/A
Frustrated when forced off after taking a blow to the head in the opening minutes.
Randal Kolo Muani 5
Not enough service. A handful when the ball was sent long and his pressing did cause problems. The best of Spurs’ striker options right now.
Substitutes
Xavi Simons (Bergvall 7’) 3
Sub was subbed after a terrible showing. Weight of pass was regularly poor, too weak on the ball and booked for hacking down Garnacho. The wait for him to hit form goes on.
Cristian Romero (Danso 60’) 7
A rare source of composure after coming on. Tried to play passes through the lines in the absence of a functioning midfield. Leadership was clear.
Richarlison (Bentancur 60’) 4
Lacking in any confidence. Played in behind once and looked lost, eventually just hitting it into defender in front of him.
Wilson Odobert (Simons 73’) 4
One touch in his 20 minutes on the pitch. No impact at all.
Destiny Udogie (Porro 73’) 5
Return from injury was some good news on a bleak night for Spurs. Fairly quiet on the left.
Brennan Johnson (Kolo Muani 73’) 5
Direct down the right wing but nobody in the box when he did get to the byline.
