Tottenham Hotspur attacking-midfielder Alfie Devine is set to join Plymouth Argyle on loan after being recalled from his spell on loan at Port Vale, according to the London Evening Standard.

The 19-year-old was recalled by Spurs this morning and will spend the second-half of the season on loan in the second-tier, with his parent club keen to see what he's capable of at Championship level.

While this comes as a huge blow for Port Vale, who are currently 15th in League One, it comes as a timely boost for Plymouth, who've seen a number of loan players recalled from their spells at Home Park this month.

Finn Azaz, Luke Cundle, Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Lewis Warrington have all been recalled by their parent clubs this month, but have seen Darko Gyabi join on loan from Leeds, and fellow Spurs man Ashley Philips join the club this month.

Alfie Devine's 2023/24 form for Port Vale

Devine joined the Stoke-based club in August, and despite a good start, he's been unable to find the back of the net all too often.

He registered a goal and an assist from the bench in a 2-1 win against Oxford United in what was just his second game, and was rewarded with a start in the club's following game.

Despite a bright start to life at Vale Park, Devine would score just twice in 20 league games for the club, making 14 League One starts this season for The Vale.

However, Devine played an instrumental role in the club reaching the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, scoring the decisive goals in the round of 16 against Mansfield Town, and registering an assist against Sutton United in the third round.

At 19-years-old, Devine needed regular gametime at EFL level and that's exactly what he got at Port Vale, making 26 appearances in all competitions, registering three goals and three assists.

Alfie Devine is a good signing for Plymouth Argyle

While his numbers weren't incredible at Port Vale, Devine is a highly-rated prospect at Spurs and will be a better player thanks to his loan spell in League One.

Given Plymouth's lack of squad depth, Devine will provide the club with some much-needed cover and will be hoping to force his way into Ian Foster's starting XI.

Devine made his debut for Spurs at just 16-years-old under José Mourinho, showing how highly rated he is at the club. He is the youngest ever player to make a first-team appearance for the club, and is their youngest ever goalscorer, as he scored on his debut for the club.

He also trained with England's senior squad in September, being drafted in by Gareth Southgate after the likes of Bukayo Saka and Levi Colwill were injured.

This goes to show how exciting a prospect Devine is, and Plymouth supporters should be pleased that they've managed to recruit someone of his calibre.
