Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a £25 million bid for West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville (h/t the Daily Mail).
The Dutchman was a thorn in their side last weekend, scoring the opener as West Ham claimed a 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Summerville’s display caught the attention of Tottenham as manager Thomas Frank looks to address a glaring problem on the left flank following Son Heung-min’s departure.
Summerville’s profile ticks familiar Spurs boxes. The 24-year-old offers pace, directness and one-v-one ability – traits that have been sorely lacking in Tottenham’s wide areas this season.
His arrival could also smooth the path for Mathys Tel’s exit. He is keen to leave after being dropped from the Champions League squad for a second time.
Summerville arrived at West Ham from Leeds United in 2024 after a standout Championship campaign that yielded 19 goals and nine assists.
Injuries derailed his first season in London, but he has begun to find his groove.
Despite West Ham’s struggles this term, he has remained one of their brightest attacking sparks, scoring in each of his last two appearances.
Summerville is tidy, quick and industrious, but he does not move the needle for a club supposedly chasing elite status.
Tottenham need game-changers, not another functional wide player who flatters to deceive.
He is a decent player, but Spurs should be aiming higher. He has recorded two goals and four assists this season, the same as Wilson Odobert.
For all the talk of ambition, this is an uninspiring punt that reinforces the sense that Spurs are shopping for depth rather than targeting difference-makers.
